Sometime in the distant future, when national media outlets have filled their quota of “Nashville: Not Just Country Music?” stories, they can all finally move on to the next logical progression: “Nashville: Not Just Indie Rock?!” Local musician Eric W. Brown is doing Nashville more favors than you can imagine by making blips (like, literal blip sounds) all over the world without the use of an acoustic guitar or Pitchfork’s approval. As Rainbowdragoneyes, Brown has become a chiptune festival favorite, programming esoteric 8-bit Eurotrash dance beats on an old school Gameboy. He’s pulling double duty lately as Magic Hammer, where he welds the aforementioned Eurobit fusion with power metal to create an ungodly fusion I can’t believe hasn’t been done more often. Not only will he be performing as both Friday night, but he will be joined by fellow locals Fake Brad and Smiletron, bringing together Nashville’s finest (and pretty much only) players in the local chiptune scene.
