If wintertime cabin fever is already getting to you, a day trip to Gallatin might be just what the doctor ordered, and Square Space Gallery is the perfect focal point. Housed in a century-old bank buildingthere are even works hanging in the old vault, whose mammoth steel door is a work of art unto itselfSquare Space is a fabulous room for art, and the surrounding town square, which recently underwent a facelift, is quite charming, and only 30 or so minutes away. (Search Gallatin Square renovation on YouTube to see the progress.) The gallerys current show, 5 Elements, features mostly upbeat works by five artists who all take inspiration from the natural environment: former Local Color gallery owner Ron Yorks fanciful animal paintings, Matthew Hastys sunsets and moonlit skies, John Hillmans abstract landscapes, Ellen L. Zinks seasonal representations, and Jennifer Utterbacks earthy, abstract mixed-media works. If youre there on a weekday, try lunch next-door at Greenberrysif the spread they laid out at Square Spaces October reception was any indication, Greenberrys alone may be worth the drive.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Dec. 17. Continues through Dec. 31, 2009
