1861 Project Vol. 2 Record Release

When: Tue., Sept. 25, 7 p.m. 2012
Price: Free
On last year’s The 1861 Project, songwriter Thomm Jutz gathered a group of Nashville tunesmiths to pen songs from the perspective of the everyday people who participated in, or were affected by, the Civil War. The album includes work by songwriters Jon Weisberger, Irene Kelley and John Brannen, while vocalists John Anderson and Marty Stuart lend their expertise. Such tunes as “The Turning of a Field” rewrite the Civil War’s history from a down-to-earth perspective. Jutz has gotten together a new group of songwriters for From the Famine to the Front, the project’s second volume. Contributors include writers David Olney and Peter Cooper along with musicians Maura O’Connell and Jerry Douglas. From the Famine to the Front takes the experiences of Irish immigrants as its subject. If you’re interested in how ordinary lives intersect with earth-shaking events, this music will move you.
