Nashville DIY Venues Shut Down After Oakland Fire
Nashville DIY Venues Shut Down After Oakland Fire

Western Medication performs at The Glass Menage

In the wake of the Dec. 2 fire at the Oakland, Calif. DIY artist space and concert venue Ghost Ship, which is known to have claimed at least 36 lives, DIY venues across the country are facing increased scrutiny from local authorities. That includes staple venues of the Nashville music scene.

Here's what we know:

  • Residents of The Glass Menage report being contacted by Nashville's fire marshal, who warned that any future shows would be shut down.
  • A talent booker at Drkmttr posted on Facebook that the fire marshal arrived during the Dec. 5 Nobunny show and shut it down. The show was moved to Betty's.
  • When contacted by the Scene, another talent booker with upcoming shows scheduled for local DIY spots responded that his lawyer advised him not to speak with the press.

The Cream has been unable to confirm whether shows currently booked at local DIY venues have been moved, postponed or canceled permanently. This includes a show headlined by Black Tar Prophet scheduled for Friday, Dec. 9, and one headlined by Hellrazor on Saturday, Dec. 10. We'll post updates here as we receive them.

Update Dec. 7: The Hellrazor show has been moved to Betty's. Watch the Facebook event page for updates.
