Sometimes it seems like a new restaurant dominates all the news on the culinary intertubes, and lately it's been Taco Mamacita. But they've been hard at work earning the buzz. Most recently, they've come under the critical eye of La Señora Zorro (that's "Fox" in Spanish) in the latest issue of the Scene.
Now the proprietors of Taco Mamacita have started to attract throngs of patrons for their new Two-for-One Margarita Wednesdays. From 4 p.m. until closing, both the El Vez and the El Camino margaritas will be available for you to double your pleasure and double your fun (and, apparently double your definite articles). Be sure to try their special formulation of crushed ice that simulates the good parts of a frozen drink without the constant annoying scream of a bar blender. From all accounts, Wednesday nights have been slammed, so get there early.
Their low-cal Skinny Margarita is not part of the two-for-one deal, but in my experience, the new version of the Skinny Marg is much better and a whole lot less syrupy sweet than the original formulation that Taco Mamacita served in their first few weeks. There's still a little Splenda aftertaste, but I think it would make a great second or third margarita if you want to conserve some calories for queso fundido instead. Personally, I'm impressed that they have been working consultatively with their patrons to develop this odd drink, and wait staff has been instructed to check with every single person who orders one for their opinions and recommendations.
They also listened to comments from patrons who weren't especially appetized by the "Durty Sanchez" sign over the bar and took it down. Apparently it was a misguided homage to the bar they replaced in Chattanooga, Durty Nelly's Irish Pub. After a quick Google search, they decided it was probably inappropriate and I think they deserve props for listening to their customers. There's still a big portrait of "Sanchez" on the wall, but one step at a time. ...
