Re: “The Open Thread Wants to Know What's the New Kale

Love this question. So much to say.

Re: “The Open Thread Wants to Know What's the New Kale

So you have a compost. End of guilt trip. Not interested in a recipe? So you can convey a sample of a dish and re-engineer it without a recipe? You're worth a million. Get me that Papa Johns pizza dough recipe, stat.

Pear Ubu

1. Yes, I have a compost pile.

2. Not interested in a recipe. I'm interested in tasting a finished product utilizing the greens so I can taste it and then make it at home. I get a lot of my ideas for home cooking from the restaurants I visit.

I'm all for parsnips. Totally underutilized.

@Lesley (sigh....) You're really a vegetarian? You sure?
Why would you feel guilty throwing that stuff on your compost pile?
Do you even have a compost?
Questions, questions.

Re: “The Open Thread Wants to Know What's the New Kale

I would love to see more vegetable greens show up on menus. Every time I toss the greens from carrots and other root vegetables, I feel guilty because I know I could be using them for *something.*

Re: “The Open Thread Wants to Know What's the New Kale

Fenwick's 300 has an Obligatory Kale Salad on their menu, and that makes me chuckle.

i think we'll see more use of 'whole vegetable' rather than one particular ingredient. So, turnips roasted plus their leaves braised. Have radishes had an "it" moment? i suppose a board with bread, butter and whole radishes counts.

i'm seeing candy cane beets pop up in places, too. as an active & avid beet hater, i'm finding that i will enjoy just about any vegetable if it's sliced thinly enough. i've happily eaten beets in The Sutler's Veggies Raw.

what about rapini? ain't nothing wrong with broccoli rabe with cannelini beans.

Re: “French Landing Brewing Co. to Land on Church Street

Choomer, I appreciate someone that's not scared to defend their brand and product, even in a sacastic way. Judging from the "likes", I don't think I'm alone.

Re: “French Landing Brewing Co. to Land on Church Street

The total size is pretty evident from the article where it says 3,000 will be added to an existing 4,900 that will be remodeled.

I would suggest that someone seeking the public's money not getting into a pissing match in public forum, though.

Re: “What'd You Eat? Mariah Carey's Juice, French Onion Soup and the Best Chips Ever

ML Rose is so consistently mediocre in the food department. There is always something wrong - cold fries, overcooked wings, almost no non meat options. Their beer is perfectly cool - but the selection stinks. All of you dumb ass IPA fanboys push the pilsners and kolsches off the draft line.

Re: “French Landing Brewing Co. to Land on Church Street

We're going to be a brewpub, MMB, and our total floor space is going to be closer to 8000 sq. ft. But I'll be sure to make the beer extra mediocre just for you.

What flavor is it? It's no bloody flavor, it's a butterfly!

Re: “French Landing Brewing Co. to Land on Church Street

MMB, you must have some big ass brooms, because 3000 square feet is bigger than most houses that aren't in gated communities. That would cost a half a mill easy in West Meade. I'll take that bet.

Re: “French Landing Brewing Co. to Land on Church Street

I'll get the popcorn. 3000 sq ft = 54 x 54 feet. A broom closet in production brewing terms. I'm betting they left off the last 3 zeroes.
