Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: Do Food Ethics Affect Your Eating Habits?

My budget dictates my choices. When it comes to meat and fish I try to do the organic/natural/sustainable thing. But that's more for my own health if I'm being honest. Grass fed beef. Chicken that's antibiotic free etc... But as a single income household on a tight budget, it's hard when you walk by that 5lb package of Purdue chicken thighs for on sale for $5.00 total.

I have found shopping seasonally for produce is easy on the wallet while being nice to the planet.

Snapper & cod--love them, but rarely buy anymore. Both are seriously overfished. Couple times a year I'll shell out for domestic/line caught sustainable fish, but it's definitely a "sometimes" treat. Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program does a good job updating seafood choices. Link to their Southeast fish buying guide. http://www.seafoodwatch.org/-/m/sfw/pdf/gu…

Re: “Mad Platter Celebrates 25th Anniversary

It was a one-of-a-kind gathering--I don't think we've all been in the same room together, ever. It's a tribute to Marcia's hospitality. She truly has the heart of a host. I try to get to the Platter every year--such a pleasure to spend time there, and in such competent hands.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: What Are Your Favorites of the New Restaurant Crop?

I'm still over the moon about Thai Esane. The service was spectacular. Our server gave us off-the-menu tips and kept stopping back to see how we liked what we ordered. Everything was fantastic. Actually dreamed about the yellow curry dish.

Re: “Tickets Now on Sale for Southern Artisan Cheese Festival — Plus a Giveaway

I'd have to say Capriole Goat Cheese - I'm a big fan of basic goat cheese but haven't tried that many varieties otherwise, and the photos + descriptions of their cheeses are calling my name.

Blackberry Farms for me, too. (Even more so if they can magically transport me there for a weekend.)

By your way of thinking, wouldn't putting coconut oil on your face be wasteful? Something you admit to doing yourself, Lesley?
