Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

Brais Grill in Mount Juliet's Providence Place has the best fries EVER and their sandwiches are served on an awesome pretzel bun. So good.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

Similar issue to fancycwabs (only LaVergne instead of Smyrna):

Karin's Kustard & Hamburgers (Smyrna)
Blue Coast Burrito (Smyrna)
Jim-n-Nick's (Smyrna)
CBQ Barbecue (Smyrna)
Thida Thai (Smyrna)
Collard Greens & Cornbread (LaVergne)
Thai Cafe (LaVergne)
King Market (Antioch)
Tacqueria Express #2 (Antioch)

Some of these would be takeout only options to stay within the 1 hour time constraint (including travel time), but can certainly be accomplished.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

I work on the west side so here is my list.

Kien Giang - Closed Mondays, Cash Only. Super cheap.
VN Pho - Closed Tuesdays, Best banh mi in Nashville.
Siam Cuisine - Quick, cheap Thai.
Coco's Italian Market - Used to be cheap but still good.
Ninki - Takes forever lately but cheap sushi
Tequilas - Really good tamales. Order one or two and you are full. Best salsa.

Re: “First Bite: As Riffs Opens Restaurant, Changes Coming To Truck And Cafe

Ate at the Cafe last week. It has been a favorite since the day it opened. No more. The food was slow (a Tophat burger took over 30 minutes) and not good. Bob Marley is now a wrap and featured unannounced pork (not the jerk chicken it should have been). Midas fries were soggy with oil. I may try the new location, but not going back to Cafe.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

At a sit-down lunch spot, I've started ordering and requesting the check at the same time. Saves about 10 minutes on the back end of the meal.

The Beer Pale on 42nd and Charlotte is brand new and offers super quick steamed or toasted sandwiches. The French dip and Reuben are awesome!!

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

Yam, Luna turned into Bolton's a few years back, and I heard the the Labor of Love folks gave up on bricks and mortar and moved out of town. Just second hand info on that one, though.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

I finally got in the Jam and was impressed with the cheesy egg, pesto, sandwich on that excellent bread. Good coffee. Still, my favorite cup is Bongo Java Sidamo. Next - the chicken salad.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

Does anyone know if Palmier is open?

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

JtheR, I had the chicken salad at the Jam when they had first opened -- probably the best I'd ever eaten. Haven't had is since, though, as I discovered their breakfast sandwich, and I'm much fonder of good scrambled eggs than of chix salad in general. I try to arrive a little after 2 but it's been a while. Perhaps they will get busy enough to warrant more space.

More on-theme, I'll add the buffet at Bombay Palace, still pretty darn good even after the owner-change a year or two ago. Also, you *may* get in and out of Royal Thai within that allotted hour; love that place for lunch. Haven't eaten *in* Kay-Bob's, but that might fit too.... Also *gotta* say Sunflower in Berry Hill, you won't miss the meat I promise, and, umm, will also mention the Monell's on Bransford, as well as Kebab Gyros in the shopping strip where Aleksey's is for wow-is-that-all-this-cost yum.

Since this is "open", does anybody know what's happening with either Luna or Labor of Love?

Re: “Best of Nashville 2014: Food and Drink (and Some Additional Victors)

@BP are you suggesting that "Best New Restaurant" is the BON equivalent of The Grammys' "Best New Artist Award?" I sure hope not!

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

I'm thirding Calypso Cafe. And I miss having easy access to the Arcade and Manny's House of Pizza in particular.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

There is no faster/better food served than Calypso Cafe even when they're pretty busy.

Since this is an open thread, I've made two unsuccessful attempts to try the Jam Coffee House on Wedgewood. The first time, I got there too close to closing to be seated by the weary lady in charge and the second time there were no seats available. I've read good things about their chicken salad. I just don't know if it's worth a third try.

I want to try the Cronut.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: The Quick Lunch

I work downtown and my two favorite places are currently Jimbo's Korean & Sushi and Ajora Cafe (Ethiopian) in the Arcade. Both are fast and the owners and staff are friendly. The Farmer's Market is another favorite but if you time it wrong it can take forever!

Re: “Sinema To Begin Brunch (With Bubbles) and Well-Mannered Kids Are Allowed

Does anyone else find it annoying that a lot of places that take reservations during the rest of the week, don't take them for brunch? Call me crazy, but sometimes I like to plan in advance how my Sunday will go, especially if I have guests in town and there is a desire for a fun brunch at a trendy Nashville locale. I understand that it keeps the seats full and when brunch entrees start to run out, there may not be an entire menu available by 2:00pm. But I also don't want to have to waste an hour waiting in what probably amounts to 12 square feet of space before enjoying bubbles and fancy eggs.
