Re: “Open Thread Asks: What Nashville Specialties Do You Miss?

Wish someone had the recipe for the fried chicken at The belle meade motel

Re: “On Celebrity Chefs and Nashville

I appreciated one fundamental point of a Nashville food theme- farm to fork is not novelty or new, it's expected.

Re: “Big Changes Coming as Nashville Farmers' Market Goes Producer-Only

I love Farmers' Market, both for the quality of some of its offerings and the funkiness of the general scene. It sounds like the board has out-yuppied itself here. I predict this radical upscaling will be a dismal failure.

Re: “Big Changes Coming as Nashville Farmers' Market Goes Producer-Only

This is great! We had been to farmers' markets all over the country so when we moved here 9 months ago we were excited to check it out. We were so disappointed we've never been back. Our hope was to find an experience - live music, food trucks, local pottery, local arts/crafts, local produce, etc. What we found were tacky stores, Dole bananas and fake Chinese imported art. Now, with these changes, we can't wait to go back!

Kennard explains, “We recognize what “local” means to a town like Nashville. ...except when choosing Jeni's Ice Creams, which are made in Ohio. IJS. There's plenty of local ice cream and Jeni's ain't it.

'Bout time. Nashville is the only farmer's market I've seen where you can buy "local" pineapples in TN!

They seem to have swapped out the Blais pic online for one from this century.

Re: “On Celebrity Chefs and Nashville

Every time a press release comes along announcing that a celebrity chef is planning on opening a restaurant in Nashville it has felt very cynical.

I know that the restaurant industry is very difficult and the profit margins are slim. I'm also not naive; I know most of the time these chefs are merely the face of a restaurant group made up of investors who probably have the most control and stand to make the most profit. Often times these celebrity chefs are getting paid for their image. That makes sense.

It gets annoying when you go to one of these places and come to find that the food is a complete after thought.

It's weird how similar these places are. They all serve meatballs, some sort of bitter green, cauliflower, red meat but always a left of center cut (skirt, hanger, tritip), a spin on hot chicken etc...

But isn't this part of becoming a city that has a great dining scene? I've been spending an average of 4 weeks a year in NYC for 10+ years. They have way more celebrity chef places and I don't think I have ever been to one aside from the occasional trip to MILK Bar.

All that to say, I'm going to Adele's on Friday with a group and am skeptical.

Re: “First Bite: The Newly Reopened Dino's

I had a burger with bacon and an egg on it & two beers for $14 monday night and it was delicious and wonderful and I loved it. I'm also glad to say the KAMiKAZE KiTTEN comedy show is back to it's regular schedule of 2nd Wednesday of every month at 8:30pm! It was a fun show last night & I'm looking forward to more. Info at

Re: “First Bite: The Newly Reopened Dino's

Just got a round of cheeseburgers last night and they were fantastic. Unfortunately our stomachs didn't agree later that night as 2/3 of us got food poisoning. Hopefully this is just a result of the transition and not indicative of the quality going forward...

Re: “Local Entrepreneur's NourishWise Aims to Point Diners Toward Healthiest Things on Restaurant Menus

What Nashville restaurants would be on the list of Top 10 Best Restaurants for If You Have to Avoid a Particular Ingredient? I know the Yellow Porch will get nit-picky with you. I wonder who else. I also experienced a helpful disposition at Tin Angel, although the minute I tasted the soup I knew it had sugar. If you don't find out from the chef you really can't find out.

Re: “Jackalope Doubles Their Taps and Decorates Their Digs

Where are the bassinets, high chairs, and most important, the USB charging ports? Welcome to Rompo Room! The reason they have to brew the small experimental batches is to continue their never ending search for a recipe that is actually notable, ya think?

So glad to see this- I absolutely love Cuestion! And I don't even really go for tequila, it's just that smooth!

Re: “The Open Thread Wants to Know What to Waffle

Asahi closed--I stopped and talked to the guys taking of its facade. But it's moving down the road, possibly to the former Calypso spot. The guys didn't speak much English, so it wasn't clear.

Re: “First Bite: The Newly Reopened Dino's

$10 for cheeseburger, fries, two beers and water? Sounds like you got a discount. I went on Sunday and $6 burger, $2 fries, $3 beer and $1 bottles water. If you were me, the bill would have been $15. A little high for the quality of the food, IMO. Of the $6 burger came with the fries I'd say it was a good deal. But not at the price I paid.

I think Asahi in Belle Meade might have closed too. Or maybe just remodeling?

Re: “Make Plans for Nashville's Restaurant Week Next Week

Sunset Grille had one of the best Restaurant Week deals ever: if you went on Monday, in addition to the normal deal (which was actually a great deal), you'd also get half-price wine.
