Re: “The Tennessean's Op/Ed Page is an Embarrassment

In regard to mass homicides, this century's Muslim terrorists are despicable, but are pikers compared to God as described in the Pentateuch. What with the Great Flood, the wholesale destruction of multiple cities, the Tenth Plague, drowning the Pharoah's army and such.

Re: “What's Worse? Getting Played by Hucksters or Claiming It's a First Amendment Issue?

From bubbadog: "Here's my question for his bosses; (sic)Shouldn't you be concerned, as Nashville's paper of record, about letting blatantly uneducated content appear on your pages?"

In other words, the "uneducated" have no right to an opinion and should let the liberal elite tell them what to think and who to vote for.

9/11, Charlie Hebdo, the Ft Hood mass murders, the Boston Marathon bombing, etal - they're a product of our imaginations. No, wait, it's mass hypnosis, that's what it is. These mass killings never happened at all and it's wrong to think such tragic, vicious acts will ever even happen. Got it.

No, this is truly a ship of fools. Talking to each endlessly about the same thing.

You all are fortunate to have me posting the truth occasionally.

Glad to catch bubba out.

Jim and Madison,

I'm not surprised that you would run to the old testament - which is a history book- and try to ignore the contrast of who Jesus is vs Muhammed.
Muhammed was not a nice guy and he wrote the "holy book" of Islam.

There's no getting around it- Islam is a farce and a dangerous hate-filled ideology. Good muslims are muslims that don't practice Islam.

"I made a casual remark, actually a query about B Phillips weight, and was viciously attacked"

Yeah, but you're a complete jack wagon, devoid of ANY redeemable qualities. Besides, as noted above, you and your alter ego (the other yoyo) constantly demean BP and others over their weight, race, sexual preference, ethnic origin, etc. and call them vile names. By doing so you lose all rights to be respected. Bubba has done this once. He may have been less than delicate this ONE time, but who effing cares? He doesn't make a habit of it, and usually has intelligent and cogent points to make. You...................on the other hand....................

"viciously"? Really?

john, it's time for you to get over yourself and stop claiming to be the victim.

It's also time for you to stop obsessing over people's appearance and/or weight.

If you think fat ass is a racial slur, you need to spend more time around white women.

And stop slobbering all over this website, for gods sake.

Re: “What's Worse? Getting Played by Hucksters or Claiming It's a First Amendment Issue?

Ms Swain is black and bubba knows this.... but previously he referred to her fat ass. A fat ass black woman? Certainly common enough. But wait, she apparently is a right winger and bubba skates on that little racial slur. Not even a comment!

I made a casual remark, actually a query about B Phillips weight, and was viciously attacked.

Re: “What's Worse? Getting Played by Hucksters or Claiming It's a First Amendment Issue?

Here's the bottom line: Had Plazas green-lighted someone's anti-semitic screed claiming that Jews had nothing in common with Christians, were dangerous to our society, and had no place among the family of man, he'd be looking for a job today, and rightly so.

He did not take a stand for free speech. He offered up the Tennessean as a platform for malicious false statements that pose a danger in their potential for inciting others to spread obvious falsehoods, make blanket judgments about all of the adherents of a diverse religion, and even commit acts of violence.

By the way, I got the impression from what he has written about his spouse that Plazas is gay -- correct me if I'm wrong -- so some/much of what Betsy has written here is silly. I think Plazas has demonstrated tolerance, journalistic sensibility, and an admirable lack of fragility.

Re: “What's Worse? Getting Played by Hucksters or Claiming It's a First Amendment Issue?

Apparently Plazos has no qualms in reducing the level of dialog offered by opinion pieces in the Tennessean to the level of Facebook rants.

How sad that a once renowned regional paper should stoop so low in its quest for diverse opinions.

Both Fowler and Swain have self-created bully pulpits that offer them ample opportunities to spew hate and prejudice toward homosexuals, Muslims, women who want the choice of whether or not to carry through with a pregnancy to remain their own personal choice rather than made for them by the government, and people who don't ascribe to their narrow, fundamentalist views. Swain has an echo chamber of acolytes reminiscent of Rush Limbaugh's dittoheads.

Neither of these self-appointed pundits needs the Tennessean to get their message out, and Plazos is either so naïve and stupid he didn't realize how vulnerable he was to the local band of shameless self-promoters.

Re: “What's Worse? Getting Played by Hucksters or Claiming It's a First Amendment Issue?

Well, butter my grits. I trust you self-righteous lefties will be fact-checking all The Tennessean's guest columns, past, present, and future. Be sure to report back on the inaccuracies and questionable data in the state legislators' columns; they will keep you busy. Then you can start on the chambers of commerce sales jobs.
