Nice piece, Jim.

Re: “Chet Flippo, Famed Journalist and Biographer, Dies at 69

I've been reading Chet forever, since Rolling Stone magazine days. His writing stands out for its concision and its common-sense approach. Sad news--he was one of the finest music writers ever.

Re: “Chet Flippo, Famed Journalist and Biographer, Dies at 69

That's very sad to hear... I really feel like Chet was one of the rare music writers who had a strong influence on some of the scenes he wrote about in both substantial and positive ways. His frequent writing about the 70's scene in Austin, and the related "outlaw" scene here did as much as anybody to bring some sense of coherence to it all as it was evolving, and I suspect his writing about "real" country music in Rolling Stone early on introduced the music to a lot of people who went on to have careers as writers, singers and players in later decades...

RIP Chet Flippo

Re: “Blondie and X to Play the Ryman on Sept. 30

The last time I saw X was at the Exit/In on the MORE FUN IN THE NEW WORLD tour in 1983. Still the most ear-splitting show I've ever seen. John Doe and Exene were feuding between songs, while Billy Zoom smiled that Peter Sellers-in-BEING THERE smile. I went with a girl at WRVU who was dating Warner Hodges at the time, and at some point he showed up, planted a meaty paw in the small of my back, grunted "Excuse me" and sent me flying off the raised table area onto the dance floor. Here's hoping the Ryman show is even half that cool.

I have seen both bands in the last 2 years (Blondie twice) and they're both still killin' it. This will be epic! I'm supporting a Burke/Bonebrake presidential ticket for 2016!!!

Re: “Portraits in Blue: William Stout’s Legends of the Blues

I certainly approve of the inclusion of greats like Louis, Roy and Wynonie, as well as the early blues queens and jazz singers like Humes. Far too much preference is given to country guitar players in things like this. And Frankie "Half Pint" Jaxon is most deserving! He was one of a kind.

Re: “Caption Contest: Ice Cube Ticket Giveaway!

For years, scientists have tried to generate the hybrid "man-crab" in laboratories. After several unsuccessful attempts, scientists decide to try it "the old fashioned way."

Are you sure it was Katey Red? I looked her up & what I saw wasnt a tranny but a DJ & a bunch of dancers simulating sex acts
