Sue Mulcahy: Open to the Night

Sue Mulcahy: Open to the Night

Drawing has been all the rage in American galleries and museum shows the last few years, and lovers of lines have found much to enjoy in the recent Shades of Gray exhibit at the Frist Center. Now, Sue Mulcahy--the standout artist in Gray--is getting the chance to move a few blocks downtown to strut her stuff in a solo exhibition. Open to the Night features Mulcahy's abstract, improvised charcoal drawings. These diaphanous, dreamlike renderings are as much about rhythm and mood as they are about the specific materials she worked with. Titular allusions like "Pop of Hot Ice" or "Scent of the Moon" offer tantalizing clues to the ephemeral subjects the artist tackles.
