Written by Mark Medoff from his 1973 hit off-Broadway play, When You Comin’ Back, Red Ryder? is a grueling psychological thriller and character study performed by a knockout cast of character actors, including Candy Clark, Peter Firth, Hal Linden, Lee Grant, Audra Lindley and Pat Hingle. Taking center stage as Teddy, the off-his-nut Vietnam vet and homicidal drug dealer, is the amazing ex-child evangelist Marjoe Gortner, whose performance will wipe all memory of his appearances in such cheese-fests as Food of the Gods or Starcrash from your mind.
This obscure and little-seen gem of low-budget ’70s filmmaking is a must-see. It’s a great film to close out the Cult Fiction Underground’s calendar of exploitation movies as it moves to its new location down Trinity Lane in October, at which point the downstairs theater at Logue’s will convert to an acoustic music venue.
