At the recent Nashville Film Festival, an encouraging sign was the number of local filmmakers who had features, docs or shorts in the lineup. The festival's over, but the films keep coming. Tonight at The Belcourt, there's a pair of premieres of short films by Nashville filmmakers. "Tom Wants to Die," by Robby Saulsbury and Hayden Mason, concerns the last man left alive and his consideration of his fate.
It's paired with "The Birdman," an 18-minute short by Sam Willey (an editor on "Tom Wants to Die"), in which a family man (Scott Crain) finds himself being prosecuted by a man in a bird costume (Andy Kanies) for the crime of killing birds. The bill (ahem) is free and open to the public, and as a bonus there's a screening of Casey Cross' short "One Night" and a Q&A after the entire screening with the cast and crew.
