The Light and Sound Machine: Kenneth Anger's The Magick Lantern Cycle, Vol. 2
When: 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 30
Where: Third Man Records

Last month’s tribute to pioneering experimental filmmaker Kenneth Anger — the point on the graph of cinematic influence where Scorsese meets John Waters — brought the biggest turnout yet for James Cathcart’s monthly screening series sponsored by Third Man Records and The Belcourt.

If you missed it, tonight’s the second installment of Anger’s hallucinatory work, featuring 1969’s “Invocation of My Demon Brother,” a ritualistic, densely layered scrambling of satanist, Nazi and pagan imagery that enlists future Manson Family conspirator Bobby Beausoleil, ’60s celebrity satanist Anton LaVey and Mick Jagger (who supplied the assaultive Moog score); plus “Lucifer Rising,” Anger’s cosmic pageant of occultist Egyptology, with Marianne Faithfull and the late director Donald Cammell (and a score provided by Beausoleil after he’d been convicted of the Manson-ordered murder of Gary Hinson).
