Free Form Friday feat. Age, Regi Wooten & Robert Bond
When: 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7
Where: Centennial Black Box Theatre, 2500 West End Ave.
A show that’s been carefully designed and precision-engineered is certainly something to be proud of, but we thrive on barely controlled chaos. And we’ll get a hearty serving of it tonight, courtesy of the latest monthly installment of the Free Form Friday series that’s curated by (and features oil-projector alchemy from) the DigDeep Light Show.
First up is Age, a project in which Josh Gumiela and Luke Rainey engage in a sort of audio tennis match they describe as a “horizontal sound composition process.” One performer creates a sound, which the other then processes in some way and passes back; The first performer processes the new, processed sound again, and so on until a complex aural tapestry hangs over the crowd. Guitarist Regi Wooten, the eldest of the five incredible Wooten Brothers, teams up with equally phenomenal percussionist Robert Bond to make nimble free jazz with a touch of classic bebop.
