Kathleen Madigan is one of those comedians who always seems to be on the verge but has never quite broken through. Despite being a 23-year veteran of stand-up, despite being lauded by people like Lewis Black, despite the phrase “best female comedian” orbiting her career like a satellite, Madigan’s status as a reliable, consistent comedian has never quite broken her into Seinfeld territory. Which is insane, because the first retort to any d-bag claiming that women aren’t funny should be Madigan.
Last year’s Madigan Again record — her first comedy album since 2006, not counting a 2010 live film — wasn’t something the hip comedy nerds jabbered about on Twitter all year, but it was a laudable record that shows how doing 300 shows a year will sharpen your work.
