Christmas came early this week for longtime Scene
contributor John Pitcher, who's built a national rep for his classical-music coverage (including his sure-footed handling of the NSO's roller-coaster year). ArtsNash
, the website where Pitcher and his reviewing/reporting partner Evans Donnell provide overnight coverage of the city's arts and theater scene, was just granted tax-exempt nonprofit status by the IRS — something Pitcher tells us is beyond difficult for online arts journalism.
That has ArtsNash ramping up an Indiegogo campaign to raise $5,000 over the next 27 days. It's definitely worth a look if you're planning charitable contributions at year's end — and if you want to see daily arts coverage by writers as formidable as Scene/Country Life veterans Ron Wynn and Joe Nolan.
