Artober Nashville: See Wild Style/Jamel Shabazz Director Charlie Ahearn at Belcourt via Skype Tonight and Sunday

Posted By on Wed, Oct 16, 2013 at 4:57 PM

As director of the seminal 1983 hip-hop film Wild Style — an essential time capsule of the New York scene that spawned rap, turntable and graffiti culture — Charlie Ahearn was documenting a cultural revolution before most people even knew the first shot had been fired. This week, as part of its "Doctober" series, The Belcourt offers a chance to see Ahearn's 30-year-old second feature as well as his latest: Jamel Shabazz: Street Photographer, a portrait of the famed photographer who captured hip hop's first decade in his street-style classic Back in the Days.

Better still, Ahearn will appear at each film this week via Skype: tonight after the 8 p.m. show of Jamel Shabazz, and Sunday after the 8:15 p.m. show of Wild Style. Ready to move back yet, Bawston Sean?
