I hope you kept your voter's card handy from yesterday, because now we need to rally around another talented Nashvillian: HollerDesign's Matt Alexander. OK, Matt is technically based in Lascassas, but that's close enough, and his handcrafted furniture has caught the eye of everyone's favorite domestic goddess, Martha Stewart.
Matt is a finalist in Martha Stewart Living's American Made contest, which features "makers" in the categories of craft, design, food, garden, style and technology. HollerDesign is a sustainable business that marries Southern tradition with modern simplicity, producing furniture that is entirely sourced, designed and crafted from dead, downed or falling trees on the dairy farm in Lascassas where Matt's family has lived for more than a century. You may have seen Holler D. cheeseboards at Barista Parlor or the stackable "Rolf Chairs" at Rolf and Daughters.
Voting for the category winners is open until Sept. 22, so get on it already. You can vote as many as six times a day, and each vote enters you into a weekly drawing to win awesome stuff like a book signed by Stewart or American Express gift cards. Maybe if they did that for real elections more people would vote? Anyway, on the 23rd, the Living editors will announce the category winners, and voting will open up again to determine who will win the $10,000 grand prize and ultimate bragging rights.
