Printmaker and Vanderbilt professor Mark Hosford says he listens to music every second he is making art. His collection is so large that he had a hard time narrowing it down, but he mentioned country music pioneers Uncle Dave Macon and Jimmie Rodgers in the same breath as industrial pioneers Skinny Puppy. How could I resist making a playlist with that kind of variety? The results are posted below.
Keep your eye out for more about Hosford next month — the Nashville Print Revival takes place on Feb. 21-23, and his role there is pivotal. We're planning extensive coverage of the event, and we can only hope it salvages some of Hosford's twangy/brutal musical influence.
Uncle Dave Macon, "Sail Away Ladies"
Skinny Puppy, "Smothered Hope"
Skinny Puppy, "Assimilate"
Jimmie Rodgers, "Waiting for a Train"
Jimmie Rodgers, "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine"
