I’m a big fan of Nina Mayer’s work. Big fan. I’ve written about her show with Emily Clayton at The Brick Factory’s old Cummins Station space (RIP), and visited her studio in the refurbished train car out back. So I was pleasantly surprised to see her work hanging at Bongo East — not the most prestigious of art venues — when I stopped in for some coffee over the weekend. I love this kind of surprise! More good art in public places, please! Her neatly framed works on paper, and especially the little black-and-white Bruce Weber collages, work really well in Bongo’s sparse-but-cluttered setting. It’s also a smart move for last-minute gifting — grab a Nina Mayer print with your latte and watch how quickly you rise from “just OK” to “favorite friend ever!”

Check out a few photos of Mayer’s exhibit after the jump.
