W. Kamau Bell (that's a video of him up there) will be at The High Watt tonight. I talk to Bell in the current issue of the Scene, and at one point we discuss his audience-diversity promotion — a two-for-one deal if you bring someone of a different race to his show. Since we got some questions about that, I thought I should refer you to The High Watt's website, which explains:
Offer good on advance GA tickets and walk-up GA tickets only, as capacity allows. Only presale tickets guarantee admission, so please plan to arrive early as we do expect this show to sell out. Once the venue has reached capacity, only customers with presale tickets will be admitted to the show. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions regarding this promotion.
Bell, who is the host of the FX variety show Totally Biased, told me this is his first time in Music City.
"I've always wanted to go to Nashville," he said. "Any place that has a lot of colleges and has a good music scene is where I want to be, so I'm excited to come to Nashville."
He also said he likes to mix it up at small club shows. "Those are the most fun shows because they have a different energy to them," he said. "Yeah, I really don't have any idea about any of these places until I get to them and go, 'Oh, this is what we're doing?' So that's what the fun of it is. It's going to be a lot of new experiences for me, too."
Bell will be joined tonight by Biased staffer Janine Brito, who once decided to un-gay herself and develop a love for penis in order to save New York from homophobic extreme weather:
Talk about a team player! This is comedy you can support.
