When: 12 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11
Where: The Frist

Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video is the best show in yet another year of strong programming at The Frist, and their exhibit German Expressionism from the Detroit Institute of Art is sprinkled with weirdness and intensity. Somewhere in the middle of all of that, Brian Alfred’s show of computer-inspired pop portraits and animated videos has been all but lost in the shuffle.

Tonight’s Artini event at The Frist will give gallery-goers a chance to relax and reconsider Alfred’s work on a tour with curator Mark Scala. Alfred’s paintings in It’s Already the End of the World are most interesting in their rare instances of energetic expression, but it’s the show’s videos that are the real highlight. Gallery admission is required.
