In this month's Crawl Space column, Joe Nolan previews the pop-up gallery that Cheekwood's set up for October. The exhibit, titled Perspectrum, features tons of colorful pieces from Cheekwood's fantastic and underexposed collection. Exhibition curator Chris Doubler let me into the gallery space early to see what was in store. There's a Warhol, a Robert Indiana and a lot of obscure prints that are definitely worth checking out. But two of my favorites were these totally 1970s-’80s pieces by Robert Rauschenberg and Peter Phillips. Seeing them side by side is like watching a mix of Reading Rainbow and Deep Throat, with bonus points for a cameo by T. Rex's Marc Bolan.
The exhibit will be up until Oct. 31. Stop by 219 Fifth Ave. — between The Arts Company and Tinney Contemporary — on your crawl of the downtown galleries tomorrow night. We'll see you there!
