Here at Scene headquarters, we're already planning on a monthlong mix of exhaustion and elation — October is our most event-filled month. Between the Best of Nashville issue, our first Nash-Up conference, and all the killer arts events that are happening this month, I'm planning on a lot of long nights and early mornings. So choosing Chris Roberson as the artist of the month is a smart move, if I do say so myself. His work is the artistic equivalent of a breath of fresh air or a shot in the arm, depending on your metaphorical preference — it gets in your brain and makes you think about things differently.
Chris goes under the radar for a lot of Nashvillians, but he's so creative and witty and his work is so on-point that it's only a matter of time before he starts piquing the interest of local collectors and gallerists. In the meantime, he's more than willing to share some of his good ideas with us Country Lifers. I've already had a studio visit with Chris, so the posts that we're planning to put together this month are going to be a little different — look for lots of creative insights and burgeoning ideas, including a still-in-the-works piece involving YouTube screenshots of brawls at professional sports events, influential artists you might not know about, and his answers to our questionnaire.
