Film Sight and Sound Poll: The Reign of Kane Is Plainly Down the Drain

Want to see what's gumming up Twitter, jamming web traffic and reducing workplace productivity to March Madness levels in cubes around the world? It's the cicada-like emergence of the British Film Institute's Sight and Sound magazine film poll, which compiles ballots from filmmakers, programmers, distributors and critics to produce a list of the 50 greatest films of all time.
The 50-year residence of Orson Welles' Citizen Kane atop the poll ended minutes ago, toppled not by Boss Jim Gettys but by Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. The most recent movie to place was David Lynch's 2001 Mulholland Dr., at No. 28. No Hawks? No Buñuel, Resnais or Visconti? No Anthony Mann, Nicholas Ray or Douglas Sirk?
