Bibliophiles, design hounds, font enthusiasts, rejoice and behold: The Book Cover Archive.

A repository of, as you may have guessed, brilliantly designed book covers, TBCA showcases and organizes some of the best. (Is it just me, or do we seem to be living in, at the very least, a gold-plated age of book covers? Anyone recall the dark, dark 1990s, when publishers seemed bent on making everything look like a bad grunge-band demo tape?)

In any case, nice to see Nashville represented on the current front page, with the striking dot-matrix skull of Adam Ross' Mr. Peanut (hardcover version). It'd be super cool if the buy link was to Parnassus, not Amazon, but that's a topic for another day, considering how cool it is that if you like the Mr. Peanut cover, you can check out other work by designer Peter Mendelsund.

Actually, you can browse by all sorts of parameters, including illustrator, author, designer, art director, publisher and publication year. I do have some quibbles with the interface here — you shouldn't have to unfurl the authors, 100 at a time, in alphabetical order — but these are minor. I mean, you can browse by typeface, for crying out loud.

The accompanying blog is fittingly amazing, as well.
