Country Life Studio Visit: Ryan Nole (Part Two)

Two of my favorite things in Ryan Nole's studio: The cartoon based on Lenny Bruce's "Thank You Mask Man" bit that he showed me, and the house he built for his dogs inside one of his studio walls. Lenny Bruce is, obviously, just about the coolest. And the cartoon adaptation of one of his most famous stories is a perfect example of the kind of modish 1960s drawings that break everything down into the most basic shapes. I was thrilled to find the clip on YouTube — you've seriously got to see it.
The dog house Ryan built for his two French bulldogs (Samo and Scout) is a genius application of that secret passageway fantasy that everyone who's ever read Nancy Drew's The Hidden Staircase or Batman comics must share. (I always wanted a bat cave of my very own.) But it's also a study in diminutive worlds, like a dog-sized dollhouse, complete with little dog-sized collections of paintings and animal toys.
