Chalk this up in the list called, "Opportunities that Chamberlain doesn't share until he selfishly buys tickets for himself." Many of us were bummed when Husk pastry chef Lisa Donovan announced she was putting her fabulous Buttermilk Road Sunday Suppers on hiatus. As more opportunities to travel and serve as guest chef in other kitchens began to fill her calendar, Donovan made the difficult choice. She is also scheduling private baking classes in addition to her early day gig at Husk, so she's a busy lady.

Fortunately, some of those classes are available to civilians like us, and she has announced her summer schedule of opportunities on the Buttermilk Road website. Included is a class that's just for kids on Saturday, June 28, where the chilluns will get the chance to get their hands a little messy as they make cookies and a layer cake.

When I read that Donovan would be giving up some of the secrets of Husk's phenomenal Buttermilk Chess Pie, I signed up immediately for her Southern Baking Basics seminar June 29 . The class was almost full when I bought my ticket, so you might have to cheat off my class notes.

Other classes are titled Custards, Creams, Eggs and Tempers; Cookies and Ice Cream Sandwiches; and Layer Cakes. Head over to Donovan's website to read more about the class syllabi and sign up to join in the fun.
