Now that it’s May, it’s getting easier to buy local produce because the farmers markets in various neighborhoods are reopening for the season.

The Hip Donelson Farmers Market returns this week, with a new location at 2730 Lebanon Road, adjacent to Donelson Ace Hardware. Its grand reopening will take place Friday, May 9, featuring food trucks, live music, giveaways and activities for the kids, including a bounce house. And while many markets accept SNAP/EBT, the Hip Donelson market doubles SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits through the Piedmont Natural Gas Share the Harvest “Snap Back” program.

Over in the bustling 12South neighborhood, the 12South Farmers Market started up earlier this week. The market operates from 3:30 until 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday through October in Sevier Park.

On the east side, the East Nashville Farmers Market will reopen this Wednesday, May 14, at a new location in Shelby Bottoms on Davidson Street. Along with the new location, the market will have extended hours, running every Wednesday through Oct. 29 from 3:30 until 7 p.m. For their grand reopening next week, they’ll have hourly giveaways, food trucks, a petting zoo, face painting, and a live bee demonstration.

The city's main market, the Nashville Farmers’ Market on Rosa Parks Boulevard, is open year-round but operates community markets as well. NFM has taken over the West Nashville Farmers Market and renamed it NFM @ Richland Park Farmers Market, kicking off last week. The market is open from 9 a.m. until noon each Saturday through October in Richland Park on Charlotte Avenue, in the Sylvan Park neighborhood. The Nashville Farmers' Market's satellite market in Vanderbilt Medical Center Plaza will return on Thursdays from 3 to 6 p.m. starting June 5.

Meanwhile, the first Night Market of the season at the Nashville Farmers' Market downtown will be Friday, May 16, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The West End Farmers Market at Vine Street has been running throughout the winter and spring on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon, and now the vendors have moved outside again thanks to the warmer weather. Further west, the Bellevue Farmers Market has returned on Friday nights from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bellevue United Methodist Church on Old Harding Road.

There are also farmers markets in Franklin on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. behind The Factory, and in Hendersonville on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. starting May 24 at The Streets of Indian Lake.
