Lockeland Table Kicks Off 'Community Hour'

While this might seem problematic in my role as a judge in the upcoming Iron Fork competition, I'm totally enamored of chef Hal Holden-Bache and his restaurant Lockeland Table. But don't worry about my ability to judge fairly, because I pretty much same feel the way about the other competitors, Matt Bolus of The 404 Kitchen, Chris Carter and James Peisker from Porter Road Butcher, and Kristen Gregory at Firefly. Besides I just finally learned how to pronounce Hal's last name correctly after mangling it for years, so clearly I'm not totally in the bag. (Hint: it's pronounced "Baytch" with a long A and rhymes with ... nothing.)

One thing I love about Hal and his business partner/GM of the operation Cara Graham is that they really put their money where their mouth is when it comes to being a vital part of the neighborhood. The full name of their restaurant is Lockeland Table Community Kitchen and Bar, and they don't just pay lip service to the "community" part. While the bar at Lockeland is indeed one of the happiest places in town, they don't have an ordinary "happy hour." Instead, they have "Community Hour," as they seek to foster an atmosphere where neighbors and visitors can come together to meet and enjoy some nice fellowship while enjoying discounted drinks and snacks.

Now they've taken the idea of Community Hour even further by donating a portion of the proceeds from community hour back to the actual community in the form of support for the parent-teacher organization at the Lockeland Springs Design Center, the neighborhood school. The Community Hour menu includes a kids section so that everyone can feel included and can help contribute to the local PTO.

Community Hour is 4 and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

So why not knock off work a few minutes early sometime soon and drop by Lockeland Table for a cocktail and some snacks on the way home? But be careful, you may end up staying for dinner if you can get a table, so keep your plans flexible.
