After a Tough Winter, Mudbugs Finally Arrive in Nashville

I think we can all admit that it's been a pretty horrific winter around here, but I'm not sure the real impact of the nasty weather hit home for me until I heard that Edley's in East Nashville had to omit the crawfish portion of their big Mardi Gras bash due to the late opening of mudbug season in Louisiana and Alabama. Fortunately, the bons temps did roulez, with Edley's excellent fried catfish taking center stage instead of their fellow bottom-dwelling crustacean buddies.

In fact, Edley's will keep the good times rolling with monthly fish fries from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m. at their East Nashville location on every third Friday through June. For the calendar-deficient, those dates would be Friday, March 21, Friday, April 18, Friday, May 16, and Friday, June 20. Just $12 (not including tax), gets you unlimited fried catfish with Southern sides served family style.

Just down the street from Edley's East, Steamboat Bill's Louisiana Seafood is finally ready to set up shop for the season after waiting out the delayed opening of crawfish season.

Apparently the cold snap sent the crawfish into a molt stage where they cannot be transported or kept alive for any extended period of time, but know they are ready to roll(ing boil.)

Starting this weekend, Steamboat Bill's Nashville Food Truck location will be up and running on Friday and Saturday at 311 Gallatin Ave. at the old Mrs. Winner's chicken location. All live orders must be in by Thursday at 10, but they'll also be boiling up bags to go for pickup on Friday and Saturday.

Live, $4.99 per pound; boiled, $5.99 per pound.

Crawfish is all that Steamboat Bill's will have this weekend, but they plan to have an expanded seafood inventory soon.
