You're Invited to a Bourbon Party at the Antiques and Garden Show

The annual Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville has celebrated Southern charm and design for more than 20 years. While I've never purchased anything more expensive than a rake there in the past, I've really enjoyed attending just to see how the other half (1 percent) lives. I did have a scare once when I realized that I was drinking a glass of red wine in a crowded booth while standing on an antique Persian rug that had a $40,000 price tag on it. I quickly and carefully exited the area before I was jostled into having to take out a second mortgage.

This year, there will be no vino for me because the show is throwing a soiree they call "A Bourbon Party: Bourbon + Southern Food + Gardens = Modern Entertaining" on Friday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at the new Music CIty Center. The event will be hosted by award-winning garden designer Jon Carloftis; the chefs behind Canal House Cooking, Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton; and the publishers of Bourbon Review, Seth Thompson, Brad Kerrick, Justin Thompson and Bob Edison. As an avid subscriber and reader, I can tell you that the Bourbon Review boys know their corn likker.

The tastings are sponsored by Brown-Forman and will feature Woodford Reserve, Woodford Reserve Double-Oaked, Old Forrester and Jack Daniel's Single Barrel. In addition to "A Bourbon Party," the Canal House chefs will be hosting a lecture with garden designer Jon Carloftis on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. The lecture, "The Finer Things in Life — the Southern Way" will cover entertaining and other lifestyle topics. The Canal House chefs from New Jersey will be signing their latest cookbooks, Canal House Cooking and Canal House Cooks Every Day, following the lecture.

Tickets to the Bourbon Party cost $50 apiece and benefit Cheekwood and Econ. Buy yours today at the Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville website.
