The folks at Yelp certainly know their food and drink, so they've made sure that these will be an important component of the party, but the raison d'être of the event is to meet some of Nashville's nonprofit organizations and possibly sign up to volunteer. Here are the details straight from the Yelpers' mouths:
The free and open-to-the public event on Oct. 26 is the centerpiece of a week’s worth of volunteer opportunities known as “Yelp Helps Week,” in which Nashvillians are encouraged to participate in volunteer activities with six of the 15 area nonprofits that will be featured at the Rocketown party. At the “Party With a Purpose,” attendees will have the chance to compete in zany “Minute To Win It” challenges to earn votes for their favorite nonprofit organizations, such as arm wrestling with Nashville Rollergirls and a Yazoo Big Wheel drag race. The NPO that receives the most votes will take home the Yelpers Choice trophy and all the funds raised from the event. While admission to the event is free, premium passes are also available for donations of $10 each, which grant attendees private entry to the party, access to the VIP lounge, 10 extra votes for their favorite nonprofit and extra drink tickets.
Local restaurants and vendors providing free food and beverages include The Row Kitchen & Pub, The Southern Steak & Oyster, Yazoo Brewing Company, and Cielo Tequila.
The event is free, but you must RSVP in advance to attend at the event website. Donations will certainly be accepted, so come with an open mouth and an open wallet.
