This Friday, Oct. 11, is the date for the ninth annual Franklin Wine Festival, which benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. More than 2,000 guests are expected to be in attendance at this year's festival to enjoy 300-plus wines, food from more than 30 Middle Tennessee restaurants and caterers, a live and silent auction, a fun King and Queen of the Vines competition, and live entertainment on three stages.

By the time the receipts are counted, organizers expect that this year should put them over a total of $1 million raised for Big Brothers Big Sisters in the first nine years of the event. That's a pretty amazing number, and the Franklin Wine Festival has to be considered one of the most successful charity events in the area. For the sheer breadth and quantity of wines available for tasting, the event deserves consideration on any oenophile's calendar.

Advance tickets are still available at the event website for $89, and will be sold at $100 at the door. Another interesting part of the fundraising weekend is a one-day only wine sale at Cool Springs Wines & Spirits at 1935 Mallory Lane from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday.

At this special sale, all the wines featured at the Franklin Wine Festival will be available at 10 percent off so you can pick up a bottle of your favorite new taste from the evening before. That includes allotted, hard-to-find, and collectible wines that might not be available at your local liquor store.
