But I'm a roamer compared to the fine folks at Las Paletas. They have recently moved into their third location since opening in 2001, but they haven't left the 2900 block of 12th Avenue South. Their new digs are at 2911 12th across from Sevier Park in the cozy home that used to house Tye Dye Mary's. The new building has a nice neighborly touch with a special walk-up window for dog owners. Drop by and give yourself the housewarming present.
Just down the street at 2509 12th Ave. S., Frothy Monkey has been closed for a few days for remodeling of the kitchen and patio area. When they reopen this week, they promise to have added beer and wine to the menu, so that should be a nice addition to 12South. Apparently, the addition of grapes and grain have been a big hit at their Franklin location.
Over on Elliston Place, two other restaurants are on the move. Smoothie King is relocating across the street to former location of Tasti D-Lite at 2418 West End Ave. With a strategic location facing all the oncoming traffic heading downtown on West End and toward the Rock Block, this may well add a little punch to Smoothie King's business.
Their current next-door neighbor, Calypso Cafe, has also put a "For Lease" sign up on their location in the small strip mall at 424 Elliston Place. Sometime in the first quarter of next year, they plan to move over to Charlotte Avenue a couple blocks away from town where the 31st Avenue Connector meets up with Charlotte. They promise a larger dining space and more parking, so Calypso Cafe fans should enjoy the change.
It might just be time for me to finally update the GPS system in my car ...
