The First Rule of Flyte Club is to Tell Everyone About Flyte Club

Posted By on Fri, Sep 6, 2013 at 10:45 AM

I'm on record as a big fan of the wine list at Flyte World Dining and Wine. I really like their playful approach to assembling the list and their efforts to educate the public on what they should be drinking. Now the folks at Flyte are taking it a step further with a new wine education series that kicks off next week. They're calling it "Flyte Club." The classes will run six consecutive Tuesdays, from Sept. 10 until Oct. 15, 6:30-8 p.m.

The wine staff at Flyte will lead the classes; each class will run about an hour-and-a-half and include some nice cheese pairings to help fill you up between wines. The cost per class is only $25, and reservations can be made online or by calling (615) 255-6200.

After the jump check out the class syllabus:

Just the Basics, Please

Sept, 10

Learn all the interesting facts about the history of wine and how it's made. Discover the differences between white, red and rose (other than color); basic grape varieties; how to taste wine, and all the tricks you need to decipher that confusing wine label! Learn the basics of wine vocabulary and even how to spot a bargain!

The World of Wine

Sept. 17

We'll cover the fundamentals of the world's most famous and infamous wine regions. What countries grow which grapes the best and why that won't ever change, the difference between shiraz and syrah, and just what is an Appellation, anyway?

All Roads Lead to France

Sept. 24

Our journey through the world's great wine countries begins with the country famous for nothing BUT wine and cheese! (ok, and a bicycle race... and maybe an art museum... and a giant particle collider... and a fashion show or something like that.)

A Taste of Italy

Oct. 1

Next we'll explore the most intriguing, passionate and confusing wine country of them all! More grapes, more history, and even more laws than any wine-producing country on earth!

Oct. 8

The most relevant country on our tour (perhaps cause its where we live?) is perhaps the most exciting. We'll take a look at the American Wine Revolution and its effect on wine everywhere (even Tennessee!)

La Dolce Vino

Oct. 15

Saving the best for last! Even the most finicky person loves dessert, and we learn all the "need to know" stuff about the sweet wines of the world. Then we finish up our course with a quick guide to Food and wine pairing. After this class you'll know what to order — and what NOT to order with your favorite dishes.
