Searching for Soul Food at the Weekly Open Thread

Posted By on Fri, Aug 2, 2013 at 5:58 AM

We note the arrival of the annual traveling Kinfolk's Soul Food Festival, which comes to Riverfront Park this Saturday, starting at 4 p.m. Though we know the music lineup — Guy featuring Aaron Hall, Peabo Bryson, Loose Ends, Color Me Badd, Lyfe Jennings and Urban Mystic — there are few details to be found about what soul food offerings will be available at the event.

If you're interested in the festival or want to buy tickets, go here. Looks like the $20 tickets are sold out, but there are still "preferred viewing" tickets at $40.

Meanwhile, as we chatted about the event, Bites' own Chris Chamberlain raised the question of where the best soul food can be found in Nashville.

Chris likes the venerable Sands. I immediately thought of Ron's BBQ & Fish in Antioch. Though I haven't been there for a while, I still savor the memory of a smothered pork chop I got there a few years ago — it remains high on my list of favorite down-home dishes ever.

How about you, Bites Nation? Where do you find good soul food? And since this is the Open Thread, what else — silly, soulful or in between — is on your mind?
