First up, if you think you’re ready for real heat in the kitchen, if you’re game for Chappy-level degradation from Gordon Ramsay, I got word from local chef Christopher Futrell that Hell’s Kitchen will be casting in Nashville next week. Producers will be onsite at the Hard Rock Cafe Tuesday, July 9, looking for “culinary candidates, 21 and over, who are outspoken, competitive and can stand the HEAT in one of the MOST EXCLUSIVE and TOUGHEST kitchens in the world.” Find out all the details, including all the paperwork you’ll need to bring with you (along with your chef’s coat) on the casting company’s website.
If you prefer slightly less heat under your seat, casting directors from The Taste will be in Nashville the following Sunday. The show has a format kind of like The Voice, but with food, and features teams headed up by four chefs, including Anthony Bourdain and Nigella Lawson. There are team and individual competitions and the stakes are high — last season’s winner received $100,000 and a new car.
If you’ve got what it takes, the open casting call will be at The Bridge Building on the east side of the river Sunday, July 14, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. You’ll need to bring your “signature dish” and all your paperwork to try out. More details are available on the show’s casting site, including all the rules for your signature dish. If you're planning to try out for the show, follow me on Twitter; sometime in the next week or so, I'll be giving away a VIP pass for the audition that will put you and your still-fresh dish at the front of the line.
