The latest news comes all the way from Colorado to Franklin with the impending opening of an outpost of Moe's Original Bar B Que at 9050 Carothers Parkway in Cool Springs. Although it's is a chain with 20-plus locations across Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Maine and North Carolina, the Cool Springs restaurant will have local ownership in the form of Alston Noah, Andrew Clark and Jordan Winn.
Noah and Winn grew up together in Athens, Ala., and met Moe's founding partner Ben Gilbert on a ski trip to Colorado. While in school at Bama, Noah and Winn met their third partner Andrew Clark, and they developed a shared interest in putting smoke to meat on a Big Green Egg. Their avocation quickly became their goal as a new business after graduation, and the three moved to Colorado to learn about the barbecue biz while they enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle of the Rectangle State.
When the opportunity came available to open the first Moe's franchise in Tennessee, the trio jumped at it and started to scout locations. After a long and sometimes trying search, they found the spot at the corner of Carothers Parkway and Bakers Bridge Road. There they hope to spread the gospel of what they call a "Southern Style Soul Food Revival" with a menu of Bama-style smoked pork, chicken and turkey sandwiches, ribs, and a shrimp "Moe Boy."
"While the food is in the forefront at Moe's Original, we kept with the entertaining vibe of our other locations by offering five flat-screen TVs and a full premium bar that will include local specialty draft beers and our signature frozen Bushwacker cocktail," says co-owner Noah. "Additionally, we will have live music occasionally."
How will it measure up against other fast casual barbecue options in town? With an opening set for the middle of this month, we'll soon find out. But I'm of the belief that there's always more room for good barbecue, so best of luck to the new venture.
