Dishcrawl's Intriguing Food Tours Arrive in Nashville

On Tuesday, March 19, Dishcrawl makes its Nashville debut. Dishcrawl, which started in California and has spread across the country, is a walking tour of restaurants. Like a pub crawl, but for food.

Locally, the Dishcrawl “Ambassador” is Cacey Lewis, a self-described foodie whose job is to choose a neighborhood and then set up and lead the tour through selected restaurants. The interesting part is that Dishcrawlers don’t know exactly where they’ll be dining until they get there. A couple of days before the Dishcrawl, ticket holders receive the information of where to meet, but everything else is a surprise.

This first of the Nashville Dishcrawls will be held in The Gulch. Cacey said it was difficult to choose among all the great neighborhoods for the first event, but that The Gulch won out because, "it is growing at a tremendous rate and it's a great little gem that has been completely embraced by the community around it. Not to mention, there are some fantastic locally owned restaurants in the Gulch that everyone should experience at least once.” No doubt that anyone—including Scene staffers—would agree that the area has come a long way even in the last five years.

The $45 ticket price includes all food; alcohol will be available for purchase, but is not included (therefore you don’t have to be 21+ to participate). If you’re interested in a little more information about how it works, check out The Memphis Flyer’s review of the first Dishcrawl event in Memphis last month. Future Dishcrawls in Nashville will likely be planned for other walkable neighborhoods such as 12South, Hillsboro Village and East Nashville, though nothing is confirmed. Keep up with them on Facebook or Twitter for the latest information.

Now for the fun part — a chance to win a free ticket to the inaugural Dishcrawl. Just leave a comment indicating which restaurant in The Gulch you hope to visit on the tour. I’ll choose a comment at random Friday, March 15, at 3 p.m. and notify the winner afterward, so be sure to leave a Twitter handle or an email address (in the comment or on your profile) so I can reach you. Good luck!
