News M Restaurant Chef Toby Willis Dies

Veteran Nashville chef Toby Willis has died, according to the Facebook page of M Restaurant and Bar, where he worked. Willis' career included stints at the Nashville City Club and Macke's, as well as restaurants in Chattanooga and Atlanta.

M Restaurant reported simply: "Dear friends — on Sunday, Feb 10th at 6:00 pm Toby Willis passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and loved ones. Thank you for your prayers, thoughts, visits and most of all thank you for loving Toby — our Chef and dear friend."

Other reports, not yet confirmed, said he suffered a brain hemorrhage Thursday and never recovered.

Willis was a popular member of Nashville's restaurant community, and his blog, Elevated Southern, was well-read by chefs, restaurant fans and many other people who enjoyed his entertaining observations about kitchen life and his keen interest in the nexus of Southern folkways and fine cuisine.
