This event is a little different. It's a private event — an invitation-only seminar and party for members of the liquor trade. Though it's closed to the public, we've managed to wangle a couple pairs of tickets.
More of an educational event than the Short Mountain party, which was basically just a throwdown, Spirits Confidential kicks off with a panel discussion featuring Fred Noe Sr., the great-grandson of the original Jim Beam himself. Other panelists include Greg Davis, the master distiller at Maker's Mark, Dave Racicot, the founder of Thatcher's Organic Artisan Liqueurs, Karina Sanchez, brand ambassador for Casa Sauza and master mixologist Bobby Gleason. The hosts of the panel are whiskey professor Bernie Lubbers and Dan Tullio, Canadian whiskey brand ambassador.
The seminar will run from 6 to 6:45 p.m.and will be followed by a cocktail reception until 9. So maybe there will be at least a little bit of a throwdown. As I mentioned, this event is by invitation only, but we've set up a contest for Bites readers. (And if you don't win, please don't show up at the door. This really is a private party.)
So here goes: Check out the Jim Beam ad pictured. Come up with the next tagline in this ad campaign for Jim Beam and leave your suggestion in the comments. The creative team at Drink Music City will select their two favorites on Aug. 1 and you'll be invited behind the velvet rope to meet these liquor luminaries. Get your Mad Men hats on!
