But first a quick reminder of the Brew at the Zoo event tonight at the Nashville Zoo. (Which will still always be Grassmere to me ...) The party starts at 6:30 and will run until 11, with over 30 breweries showcasing their wares. There will also be an official after-party at M.L Rose Craft Beer and Burgers. Head there for a snack and additional enjoyment. Additionally, all Brew at the Zoo guests can return to M.L Rose tomorrow with their ticket stub or wristband for a buy-one-get-one deal on pints and pitchers, limit one per guest.
Rhizome Productions will be putting the party together, so you know it will be a good time and well-organized. These are the same folks behind the Winter Warmer and the East Nashville Beer Festival. They recently made a donation of more than $11,000 to the Ride to Read program, as promised, from the proceeds of the ENBF. Kudos to them for their good work and generosity!
Also tonight is the Frugal MacDoogal Team Chad Tasting at Richland Country Club starting at 5:30. You can enjoy great wine, delectable foods, great people, while contributing to the Chad Welch Memorial Fund and the fight against Leukemia. The wine list includes Ladera, Stags' Leap, Etude, Rodney Strong, Ferrari-Carano, Merryvale, Mount Veeder, Drouhin, Hakutsuru, and many more great wineries.

I'm a big fan of Ferrari-Carano and their unbelievably beautiful estate in Sonoma. In fact, it was a server at Mad Platter who first turned me on to the winery and encouraged me to visit. Take their (and my) advice and try it out!

This weekend Red Dog Wine and Spirits will taste some standout wines from Chile's Colchagua Valley, one of Chile's best-known wine regions, in the southernmost portion of the Rapel Valley. The area is known for full bodied Cabernet, Carmenere, Syrah and Malbec.
The soil is deeply influenced by its location, as it is surrounded by the Tinguiririca River and the Chimbarongo Creek—two large waterways that once brought sediments from the Andes. Today, they act as pathways for cool coastal breezes that help moderate the warm Colchagua summers, contributing to the intensity and fruitiness of the wines.
This weekend we'll taste wines from this area from Calcu, meaning Magician, in reference to the winemakers who are expert blenders of grapes from the Calchagua Valley including Calcu Rose, Calcu Cabernet, Maquis Lien, Maquis Carmenere, and Maquis Cabernet Sauvignon.
And on on Friday Alejandro Joffre, winemaker for Maquis winery, will join us at the tasting from 4:00 until 7:00. If you can't make it by on Friday, you can still taste the wines on Saturday without Joffre from 2:00 until 6:00.
