Every year the family event called Cupcake-palooza gets bigger. A benefit for Books from Birth of Middle Tennessee, it takes place this year on Saturday, March 24, 2-5 p.m. Once again the venue is the spacious community room at Belmont United Methodist Church, 2007 Acklen Ave. in Hillsboro Village.

Cupcake-palooza is the brilliant creation of Joan Brasher. She's a writer and editor for Vanderbilt publications, a community volunteer, a mom and a cupcake enthusiast.

Here's the announcement:

Cupcake-palooza: It's back and sweeter than ever!

Come sample from thousands of cupcakes and other goodies donated by Cupcake Collection, Nothing Bundt Cakes, The Painted Cupcake, Mattie-Cakes, Sweet Stash, Costco, Publix, Harris Teeter, Grins Vegetarian Cafe, Blue Bell Ice Cream, Tasti D-Lite, Starbucks and more.

Home bakers are invited to donate their creations (contact joan.brasher[at]vanderbilt.edu), and win prizes for their cupcakes.

There will be a kids' reading and craft area, as well as a Wii gaming area (for burning off all that sugar!) sponsored by Game Stop West End. There will be special guests, including Mayor Karl Dean!

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children 5 and under. Guests will have a generous amount of treat tickets to cash in for a variety of goodies. No advance tickets — please pay at the door.

All proceeds go to Books from Birth of Middle Tennessee, which is operated out of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Find us on Facebook (facebook.com/cupcakepaloozaBenefit) and Twitter @cupcake_palooza. Volunteer through Hands on Nashville (HON.org). For more details, contact joan.brasher[at]vanderbilt.edu.

Come support this terrific program that provides free books to preschoolers and helps families fall in love with reading!
