Jackalope's celebration of Burns' 253rd birthday won't be the traditional Burns Night Supper. Instead, they're opting for "beer, plaid and made-up games."
Besides good ale and plenty of it, there's an ambitious schedule of traditional and nontraditional activities. It's like a combination of Highland Games and Burns Night dinner.
Between the putting contest, Highland Cow drawing, poetry reading ("showing off your best/most enthusiastic Scottish accent") and a wall-sit (exactly what it sounds like, but holding an empty keg), anyone of pretty much any ability can be a contender. The games begin at 3, with the last games starting at 5.
There's a special brew on for the night, Hairy Highlander Scottish Ale, and news to celebrate: Jackalope brews are now available in lots of bars and pubs, including Broadway Brewhouse, Edley's BBQ, Family Wash, Village Pub, Corsair Taproom, Beyond the Edge, 12South Taproom, Flying Saucer and Beer Sellar. Growlers can be filled at Frugal McDoogal, Midtown Wine and Spirits, J. Barleycorn and Stogie's (Franklin).
Jackalope Brewing is at 701 Eighth Ave. S.
