One of the best cookbooks I came across this year was The New Southern Garden Cookbook by Sheri Castle. It's big — 350 recipes big. And it's abundant with really different and inspiring ideas for using produce, whether you buy it or grow it. What sets the book apart is that so many of the recipes have a Southern accent: BLT Chicken, Hoppin' John Risotto with Collard Pesto, Lemony Deviled Eggs, Chow Chow Slaw, Melted Tuscan Kale, Creamy Baby Turnip Soup with Smoked Trout Butter. I'm making Crispy Zucchini and Potato Skillet Cakes for a latke-palooza later this week.
