Open Thread Has Holiday Cheer To Spare

Oh someone! Get me a moist towelette — it's an eggnog tasting, featuring local Hatcher Dairy eggnog and Four Rose Small Batch, tonight 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Porter Road Butcher, 501 Gallatin Road. Porter Road carries the nog, and you can nip over to Woodland Wine Merchant to buy the Four Roses.

In a development that will gladden hearts on the west side, Sperry's has added a light-bites/appetizer menu of casual foods available before and after the dinner rush. Smoked salmon on toast points, prime rib sliders, filet mignon tidbits on stone-ground grits, escargot, jumbo shrimp cocktail, blackened prime rib, and baked brie — just $7 each. Get them from 5 to 7 p.m. or after 9 p.m. at the Harding Road location. (There's also a $6 a glass wine list!) Go to their Facebook page for more details.

And finally, briefly, expect a Penn Station East Coast Subs in a strip mall near you — businessman Praveen Patel just inked a 10-unit deal for the Nashville area, according to restaurantnews.com. Delis are pretty thick on the ground in my neck of the woods, but some people prefer Penn Station to any other sub chain. What about you — want a Penn Station nearby?

Shopping, wrapping, partying, baking — what's up in your culinary life?
