Today on Today, Travel + Leisure features director Nilou Motamed dished out some culinary travel tips, including three picks in our fair city. Can you guess what we're known for, besides our "foodie scene"? Here's a hint: Motamed says she's sure Taylor Swift loves eating at The Catbird Seat. That may be true — Taylor's palate has probably developed since her Spaghetti Factory days. But talk about a missed segue: Catbird chefs Josh Habiger and Erik Anderson met while cooking at the acclaimed Alinea in Chicago, the first restaurant mentioned in the segment.
Anyway, nice to see Nashville get some pins on the national food map, with nods also to Yellow Porch and their site-grown salad ingredients, and Mas Tacos Por Favor's tortilla soup. I've just embedded the 615-centric clip above, but you can watch the whole thing, Parisian macarons and all, at the Today site.

SO glad Yellow Porch got a mention. It doesn't get nearly the press / blogger / chatboard attention it deserves.
Yellow Porch love fest!
Some of my best meals have happened at Yellow Porch. I kinda love the fact that it isn't in a particularly trendy part of town and is right next to the shadiest motel this side of the river. Their gnocchi, flat iron steak, leg of lamb, pork chop, salmon... not many places have that many dishes that I love.
And even people who like YP probably don't go for lunch that often ... and the lunch menu is one of the best gourmet bargains in town. Service is good, too. I dropped by solo one evening after a long day, desperate for a nice evening meal, and even though they were booked with reservations and the tiny bar was full, they managed to juggle things and find me a seat after about a 10-minute wait.
I've been a fan of Yellow Porch for awhile, but my last lunch experience their was marred by very poor service. One of the three servers wasn't carrying his weight and the other two had to pick up the slack. He was my server and it turned into a 2.5 hour lunch for a couple of sandwiches with the other servers providing drink refills and bringing the check. I hope when/if I go next that guy is no longer employed there.
